Are tiny homes legal in Australia?
Short answer, yes!
Long answer, tiny homes are legal in Australia under the classification of a caravan but where you can put them differs state by state and council to council. A tiny home must be on a trailer with wheels to be classed under the umbrella of caravans. Otherwise tiny homes need DA approval to be placed onto the ground. Regulations can vary by state and local council with regard to where you can place the tiny home on a property.
In NSW, legislation allows a tiny home to be placed on a property with an existing dwelling and used in connection with the owner’s household by either the landlord or members of the owners family. Other uses for the tiny house can be approved but are up to individual councils approval. In other states such as Victoria and WA, some shires and councils have made positive progress towards accepting and encouraging tiny home living so it’s best to check with your local council regarding your plans.
How much do tiny homes cost?
The cost of a tiny home will depend on the model, size, and customisations you choose. Prices of tiny homes on the market can vary between $80k-$250k+ from very basic models with limited inclusions to very comfortable living spaces. Do I need land to place a tiny home?
Yes, you’ll need a piece of land to place your tiny home as they can’t be parked on the street. This could be your own property or a piece of land on someone’s property that they lease out. How big are tiny homes?
In Australia, the one universal regulation surrounding tiny homes on wheels is size. The tiny house on wheels must be under 2.5m wide, 12.4m long and 4.3m high and no more than 4.5 tonnes. These regulations are specifically in place to ensure they are road worthy moveable houses.
Can I move my tiny home?
Yes, they are mobile but not something you’d want to be moving regularly. The tiny homes we sell come on a structurally engineered trailer and they are transportable. However, keep in mind that moving a tiny home requires the right towing capacity and professional help. What is included in the price of a tiny home?
The price of our tiny home includes the base model with essential features, including the frame, insulation, plumbing, electrical setup, basic appliances (Oven, cooktop, aircon, dishwasher). The price does not include land, transport costs, or installation fees (if applicable). Any customisations you choose for interior finishes or solar power and battery storage options may also affect the final price.
Can I customise my tiny home?
We offer some customisation options for the interior of our two models, including a variety of colour schemes, materials, and tap ware/hardware. However our models are not fully customisable in terms of layout as this approach helps keep costs down due to high costs of re-engineering, certification and production schedules. By sticking to the set layouts of our tiny home models, production time can be greatly reduced.
How long does it take to build and deliver an Inospace tiny homes?
After initial payment, we aim to deliver the home to you in 10 weeks. This is an estimate and actual delivery times may vary depending on final delivery location of the tiny home.
What warranty do you offer on your tiny homes?
We offer a 2-year warranty on all of our tiny homes. This warranty covers major structural issues and defects in materials or workmanship. We stand by the quality of our homes and are committed to ensuring your satisfaction with your purchase.
Are tiny homes energy efficient?
Yes, tiny homes are inherently more energy-efficient due to their smaller size however we design our homes with energy efficiency in mind, including proper insulation, efficient appliances, and eco-friendly options to reduce energy consumption. Utilising solar power technology and battery storage, you can essentially position your tiny home anywhere and have enough power to get you through the day and night whilst enjoying the comforts of your appliances.
Can I live in a tiny home full-time?
Yes, many people choose to live in tiny homes on wheels full-time. Just be sure to check with your local council for occupancy regulations in your area, as some locations may have restrictions on permanent residency in tiny homes.
